Wi-Fi is radio. Walls, floors, water and metal all weaken it. Moving your router to a better spot is free and often fixes weak signal in the far rooms.
Good spots
In the middle of the home, so the signal spreads evenly.
Up high, such as on a shelf, not on the floor.
In the open, not inside a cupboard or behind the TV.
Spots to avoid
Next to thick concrete walls, steel almirahs or water tanks.
Beside a microwave oven or cordless phone base.
In a corner of the top or bottom floor of a multi-storey house.
Still weak upstairs?
In homes with several floors, one router may not reach every room. A mesh system or an extra access point can help. Read our guide to mesh Wi-Fi and extenders.
